So you want to start a business?
Why?
It sounds cliché but a well thought out “Why?” determines whether you will have a profitable business or not.
Let me explain what I mean.
I have found that there are 3 types of business people in this world
- Those who are motivated by their purpose
- Those who are motivated by money
- Those who are not motivated at all
If you fall under the category of the unmotivated.
You probably aren’t reading this post right now, so I won’t spend much time here.
But what I will say is, if you are around an unmotivated adult, you can’t change them, but you can expose them to certain situations and experiences, if they are open to them, great. If not, move on.
Periodt!
If you are motivated by money. That’s cool.
However, I have found that people who are only motivated by money will either
- do anything for money
- can’t manage their money
- when they don’t see the money right away, they stop because the thing that is motivating them (money) does not exist, at that moment
Money can be a motivation, but for it to be the only motivation in business can be detrimental not only to your business, but to yourself.
Then we have those who are motivated by their purpose!
That’s me! That’s me! Lol Hopefully you too!
I’m lucky because I always knew what I wanted to do and I was surrounded by people who said that I could do and be anything that I wanted to be.
The “job” has changed over the years, but my mission and purpose remained the same.
I want to help, heal, educate the people. I enjoy it.
I’m sure it has something to do with me being the 1st born on my momma side and being born into that leadership role.
As I got older, I began to focus on the Black community, but I always been about being of service to people and making people feel good and making sure they are not taken advantaged of.
My purpose is what motivates me.
It motivates me so much that if money did not exist, I would wake up and do it for free every day.
However, money does exist and I like money, so I charge for what I do, but every year I commit to working with a number of organizations and individuals for free because I enjoy what I do.
It is not ALL about the money for me.
I keep going because I envision a world where people
- are focused on their goals
- in healthy relationships
- living comfortably
- resolving conflicts positively
- happily employed
- have profitable businesses
- with wealthy bank and investment accounts
I keep going because……..
- It’s fun
- It inspires my family
Well yes, I want the money too.
I want to live lavishly and support those who I care about the most in doing the same.
Why not.
The money is here ain’t it?
Like I said, money can be a motivation but not the only motivation.
The reason for you starting your business has to be bigger than you
I know a few people right now who told me they wanted to start their business. It is now the end of the year and a business as yet to manifest. why?
Because the why behind their business isn’t transformational enough.
The only life they gone change with your business is theirs and that is not enough.
Your why has to be bigger than you.
